Shannon Hollman Photography (formerly known as Thousand Words Photography) does natural light portrait and wedding photography. She is based in Kalispell, Montana. Shannon was kind enough to answer questions about her work and relationship with Gracylu Originals.
SARAH: How long have you been a professional photographer and what led you into the industry?
SHANNON: I have been doing photography full time for about three and a half years. I fell in love with photography like a lot of others do after photographing my sons. The more I photographed them the more I wanted to learn the ins and outs of photography. How settings work, how lighting works, how locations play a part…so I dove in and researched and was instantly hooked! There is something so magical and amazing about being able to freeze a moment in time forever. It really is the greatest gift.
SARAH: You’re a natural light photographer. How difficult is it to get the shots you want?
SHANNON: Yes! I am an all natural light photographer. No lights, no flashes, no reflectors. Just God’s amazing light. It can be super difficult at times. You never know what you are going to get, especially in Montana! I have found over the years, though, that there is good light just about anywhere at anytime. You just have to look for it. And, yes, sometimes it may be really hard to find
but when you do find it, there is nothing better!
SARAH: I noticed on your website that you’ve earned a Wedding Wire Brides Choice Award. Sounds like quite an honor! What can you share about that experience?
SHANNON: That is one award that I truly love. The reason being is that it’s the Brides Choice Award. That means I received it because my past brides have taken the time to review what I have done for them and they have said the most amazing things. It makes my heart smile to know that couples will look back on their photos and be able to relive their amazing day and remember how their love felt. I have the best job ever!
SARAH: And now the big question. When did you discover Tristian and Gracylu Originals?
SHANNON: I found Gracylu and Tristian a year or so ago. I help run an amazing blog called the Maternal Lens and we were always looking for amazing products to feature. When I stumbled upon Gracylu I just knew it was something that we had to showcase! As you can imagine, when we featured them in three giveaways, our readers fell in love with them just as much as I did!
SARAH: Tell me about photo shoots you’ve done using Tristian’s headpieces.
SHANNON: I was lucky enough to be able to photograph a couple of Tristian’s pieces and I must say they are even MORE amazing in person. I wish I could use them in every session.
Both times I used Gracylu headpieces were children sessions. The girls that got to wear them went head over heels! It was like Christmas morning when I showed the pieces to them.
Gracylu headpieces add so much personality and beauty to the photographs. Seriously. I LOVE them!!!
SARAH: Would you recommend Gracylu headpieces to brides and if so, why?
SHANNON: I plug them on my Facebook page as much as I can! I would 100% recommend them to brides! (and seniors, and children and newborns…)
With brides, so much thought goes into the perfect dress for the wedding day, so why shouldn’t their hair get the same love? They are so elegant, so beautiful and they really are the frosting on the bridal cake.
SARAH: Anything else you’d like to share?
SHANNON: I would just like to add that Tristian, the talent behind Gracylu, is just as amazing as her products. She has a heart of gold and is one of the most kind, loving and generous people. It’s nice to buy a wonderful product, but I believe it’s even better to know that the face behind the product is as good as they come.
