Photographer Showcase—Simplicity Photography

Angie Monson, of Simplicity Photography,  is a portrait photographer from Salt Lake City, Utah. She says she’s just a gal trying to make a living through her passion and conquer a few dreams here and there.

Join me as we learn more about this photographer’s journey.

SARAH: What first interested you in becoming a portrait photographer?

ANGIE: I have always loved photography & fashion. My older sister was a model when I was young and I loved watching it all happen from start to finish. I think that is what got me so interested.

SARAH: Tell us how Simplicity Photography came about.

ANGIE: I have taken photos with a professional camera since I was 13 and knew that was what I wanted to do but was just too afraid. I finally started photographing people for money when I was about 25. It’s been a journey since then; it’s crazy to look back and see how far my business has come and how so many people told me I couldn’t do it.

SARAH: Wow, that’s sad, but we’re glad you made it! Does work ever take you far from home?

ANGIE: Yes, a few times a year I fly to other states to photograph families or weddings. I used to love it but it’s so much harder now that I have 3 kids…. I feel such mommy guilt!

SARAH: Aw, how sweet. What is a typical shoot day like?

ANGIE: I usually don’t shoot until the evening hours because I want that golden light in my photos… so I spend most of the morning with my kids and editing and then about 1 hour before the shoot I make sure my camera gear is ready, put some make up on, and check the garage for props. It’s usually last minute just like I like it. I don’t like to put too much planning into my shoots because then I have really high expectations, I like to just show up and let the family or kids show who they are instead of adding too much fluff. It’s too complicated for me to stylize the shoot too much! (I am LAZY!)

SARAH: How did you find Gracylu Originals?

ANGIE: I met Tristian in Texas when I was doing some family sessions… she came to one of my sessions and said hello! I love working with her, she is so talented and such a beautiful person inside and out.

SARAH: What’s the first piece Tristian made for you, and how was it used?

ANGIE: Gosh I can’t remember! I think the most memorable one would be the pink top hat that my little girl Chloe modeled. It’s on the banner of my blog and one of my favorite images I have ever taken!

SARAH: Love that photo! Thanks for stopping by to chat with us, Angie.
